Novak Djokovic Keeps Andre Agassi as Wimbledon Coach
Novak Djokovic has confirmed that Andre Agassi will be his coach at Wimbledon for as long as Djokovic is able to remain in the tournament.
Djokovic united with Agassi at last month’s French Open after letting the rest of his coaching team go, but their relationship has remained an informal one.
Agassi’s Got Other Commitments
Agassi’s extensive commitments in America, to both his business interests and his family, means that he has not been able to commit fully to Novak Djokovic, and there has been, until now, some doubt about what his Wimbledon-role would be, especially since he left Roland-Garros halfway through the tournament.
Djokovic , who will start his Wimbledon-warm up by taking part in the Eastbourne AEGON International this week, is adamant that Agassi will be available to him as long as he needs him, stating that although Agassi would not make Eastbourne, he would certainly be in London for Wimbledon.
Djokovic Happy about the State of Things
Djokovic has said that Agassi will remain in London at the Wimbledon tournament for as long as Djokovic remained in play. He stated that the 8 or 9 days that they spent together at Roland Garros were very valuable to him, and allowed him to learn a lot, and he elaborated by talking about the array of experiences they shared both on and off of the tennis court. Djokovic said that he felt that Agassi had been through experiences which he himself could relate to, and that this feeling was reciprocated.
He went on to say that having Agassi around was not only wonderful for him, as a player, but for tennis also, and that his aim was to spend as much quality time with Agassi as he could.
Agassi’s Overall Impact on Novak Djokovic
The surprise defeat that Djokovic suffered in Paris to Dominic Thiem, which occurred after Agassi had departed, resulted in some questioning the positive impact that Agassi was capable of delivering when his work as a coach was as part-time as it is currently, but Novak Djokovic seems content with the way in which the pair are working.
Wimbledon is coming up very soon, and, although the usual suspects are tipped for glory, there are players who may well upset the odds. Djokovic has indicated that Agassi is set to arrive before he begins his first-match round on Tuesday.
