England cricketing captain Joe Root says he’s fully behind all-rounder Ben Stokes as the latter spends a time away from the game for recovering his state of mental well-being.
Stokes is currently taking an indefinite break from the game for what he has described as putting his mental well-being first. He’s at the same time also continuing his rehabilitation from an injury to his finger.
While Stokes isn’t expected to return to playing as soon as this summer, his anticipated absence from the upcoming five-Test series between England and India remains disappointing news for fans and players alike.
Root has however minced no words expressing his unconditional support to his friend. The two have known one another since their very early days of playing under-13s cricket at Cumbria and Yorkshire. Root said during a recent interview and questioning on the matter that anybody who “knows” Ben Stokes, knows that he’s a player and human being always putting others ahead of himself. The time has now come for Stokes to put himself first so as to arrive at a good personal space once again, explained the England captain.
If victory over India at Trent Bridge were indeed to be on the cards this week, it will have been Joe Root’s 27th as national Test captain – thereby enabling him to best the national record he currently still shares with Michael Vaughan.
As for a possible timeframe for Stokes’ return, the prediction is emerging a tough one to crack – especially considering a packed schedule that once again awaits the cricketing world.
