BBC Official Scottish Rugby Season Broadcaster 
The BBC will be the official broadcaster of the live rugby test matches between Scotland and New Zealand, Australia and Samoa in the Scottish Autumn. Scottish coach Gregor Townsend will be heading up Scotland in a series of home matches for the first time in his career as head coach. The pressure is well and truly on what with the Murrayfield matches against New Zealand and Australia already sold out.
Scotland faces the All Blacks on November 18th and the match will be broadcast across the UK by BBC Two. BBC Sport Director Barbara Slater said earlier that it was a great honour for the BBC to be bringing the best in Scottish rugby test matches to a wide audience in the United Kingdom.
The BBC will not be the only broadcaster bringing the game to the people. All of the action will also be available on BT Sport, marking the first time in history that two national broadcasters are set to show major live matches in simulcast. BT, parent company to BT Sport, has been involved with Scottish Rugby as its main sponsor since 2015.
Scottish Rugby’s COO Dominic McKay welcomed the announcement, saying that the dual broadcasting rights would afford all UK-based Scottish fans the opportunity to follow the action, and on the channel of their choice.
BT Sport’s Simon Green commented by saying that BT Sport was committed to Scottish Rugby and that they were elated at the prospect of being able to continue the supportive partnership by being a broadcast partner.
Scotland A Rudderless Ship In November Championship
The plot thickened on Thursday when it was announced that Scotland would be going into its signature rugby championship without a captain due to a fractured ankle. Greig Laidlaw sustained the injury whilst playing for his club in the Champion’s Cup on the weekend. What’s worse, chances are than stand-in captain John Barclay could very well also be sitting out as he continues to valiantly battle an ongoing concussion injury that has now turned into a concussive issue.
The three-match series kicks off on November 11th, when Scotland is set to host Samoa at the BT Murrayfield stadium. The fixtures against Australia and New Zealand follow on the two consecutive weekends.
Important Changes Ahead For 2019 / 2020
Scottish Rugby CEO Mark Dodson is already looking well into the future, having announced on Wednesday that applications would formally be open as from November 20th to all clubs interested in forming a Super 6 franchise during the 2019 / 2020 season.
Clubs who wish to apply will be required to bring along their own financial backing in order to contribute to the larger Scottish Rugby picture.
