Springboks Unsure On How To Deal With All Blacks

October 3, 2018 by

The Springboks have been praising the All Blacks pack, and revealing their thoughts on their scrums and mauls tactics. Matthew Proudfoot, a South African who played a few test matches in the Scottish front row, has described the All Blacks pack as incredible.

Ahead of their latest test in Pretoria, Proudfoot has explained that the All Blacks scrum and their new focus on the rolling maul were pivotal in showing the world how the current champions are operating. He explained in a statement that the maul is an important weapon used in rugby as it puts eight forwards in a single space and creates space for the backs to attack from.

He added that it was important to maintain the integrity of the maul in world rugby, and that a team that can scrum well is able to keep the opposition flanks tied down, allowing the backline to attack flat.

Proudfoot went on to describe how the All Blacks have a powerful pack of forwards, and while he’s sent much praise toward rising lock Scott Barrett, he also believes that the team has lost of their line-out authority after the breakup of their previous Brodie Retallick/Sam Whitelock/Kieran Read combination that has seen the team unvanquished for almost an entire season.

The Springboks, on the other hand, have a few front row options of their own, and have been conscious of which scrum anchor to put against the All Blacks.
