Castle On The Importance Of Collaboration

November 6, 2020 by

Incoming Sport New Zealand boss Raelene Castle says she would like to see a more prominent focus on collaboration between different codes once she takes over the reins in six weeks’ time.

The former Rugby Australia CEO was this week confirmed the organisation’s new chief executive officer set to take over from the departing Peter Miskimmin.

Castle spoke to a leading sports newscaster about her plans and aspirations for the future of sport in New Zealand. A secondary focus, said the incoming chief-in-charge, will be ensuring the greater involvement of especially young people in sport. Dwindling numbers of young people and young interest in sport are of a great concern to the sector, stressed Castle.

Current initiatives aimed at inspiring young people to sign on and practice sports with a focus on national competitions aren’t achieving nearly enough in terms of the bigger picture and the bigger worry, said Castle. This has led her to believe that much more can be achieved if the different codes that make up sport in New Zealand were to actually work together – instead of doing it alone trying to inspire greater involvement.

Castle says he’s super eager to work towards the overall strengthening of the country’s administrative ranks in competitive sports on a national level. Those people who have for the longest time done a fantastic job at holding sport together and keeping the entire playing field stable require of the rest of the sporting community more support and more acknowledgement, said the new CEO.
